Our volunteer writing partners are people of different ages, life stages and religious, cultural and education backgrounds. They share the desire to learn more about the Holocaust and support survivors in telling their stories in the manner that was meaningful to them.
Rose Besser welcomed me into her home to interview her for the Sustaining Memories project and generously shared her life story with me. She was barely a teen when the war began, and she was brave, relentless in her struggle to stay alive. The thread that ran through her wartime experiences was her agency. The great risks she took to help keep her family alive in the ghetto after her father died reflect the actions and choices made by every Holocaust survivor and victim. I am honoured to carry her story with me.
